Yes, olive oil. The same stuff that is drizzled on salads and is used to saute something when stir-fry just doesn't sound fancy enough.
Apart from the exotic, there are many other advantages to using olive oil over your regular shave goop.
The Inventory
1. Extra virgin olive oil (it's unprocessed).
2. A razor. I'll recommend a Mach 3 for obvious purposes (i.e. I use it myself).
3. Confidence.
The Procedure
It's ok if you like to shave after a shower, but you don't need to wet your face (Oil scores one point - Shaving goop - Zero!).
Pour a bit of oil into a cup, and use index and middle finger to dab it
slowly onto your face. For areas with thicker growth, use more oil.
Shave normally.
Advantage 2 - You can actually see what you're shaving instead of hoping that there isn't a pimple hiding under that cloud of shaving foam.
Why it is awesome?
A good shaving product prevent razor burn. Because of it's intense
moisturizing effect, you won't get razor burn, as well as fewer cuts,
because you have coated your face with oil, over which the blade glides.
In fact, pre-shave oil from Art of Shaving contains olive oil to let the product get a gentle, yet firm grip on your skin for the blade to cut through.
Instead of fussing over plant extracts in your shaving cream, you're
shaving with it. Plus, it's eco-friendly (no canned packaging, no
chemical goop mixed with the water runoff). And it costs less, and can
leave you with seriously younger looking skin.
Post-ops
Wash it off.
If your face is dry (which would be unusual), you can dab on a little moisturizer. Or olive oil.
To extend the life of your blade, leave it in the shaving cup. This
will prevent rusting, and your lubricating strip will last longer.
